Route 66 of Zhongwei
The No. 66 Middle Street Highway is a rural road connecting the urban area of Zhongwei and the ancient village of Beichangtan. It is 38 kilometers long (with the core section being 1.2 kilometers). Due to its winding path through the Yellow River Gorge and the continuous desert landscapes on both sides, along with the magnificent mountain views, it is called "the Chinese version of Highway 66". Since it became popular in 2021, this road has become a popular destination for self-driving tours and photography enthusiasts due to its unique U-shaped sections and straight visual features. As of May 2025, the road has been selected as a national transportation and tourism integration innovation project, and has driven the development of new business models such as local guesthouses and cultural markets along the route.
