More about the trip

Shanghai Maglev: Experience the Future of High-Speed Rail

The Shanghai Maglev is the world's first commercial high-speed maglev (magnetic levitation) line, offering a unique and exhilarating transportation experience. It connects Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) with Longyang Road Station in Pudong, reaching speeds of up to 430 km/h (267 mph). It's not just a mode of transport but an attraction in itself, showcasing cutting-edge technology.

What to See and Do

  1. Experience High Speed: The main draw is the ride itself. Feel the sensation of accelerating to incredible speeds, reaching 300 km/h in just over 2 minutes and then hitting its top speed of 430 km/h (during specific operating hours). The journey is smooth and quiet, as the train floats above the track.

  2. Maglev Exhibition Center: At the Longyang Road Station, there is a small exhibition center that provides information about maglev technology, its history, and future developments. You can learn about how magnetic forces are used to levitate and propel the train.

  3. Efficient Airport Transfer: For travelers, it offers the fastest way to get between Pudong Airport and the city center (Longyang Road Station, where you can transfer to metro lines).

Best Time to Visit

The Maglev operates daily. If you want to experience the full 430 km/h speed, check the operating schedule, as the top speed is only reached during certain hours (typically between 9:00 AM and 10:45 AM, and 1:00 PM and 3:45 PM). Otherwise, it's a convenient and fast transfer at 300 km/h.

How to Get There

The Maglev has two stations: Pudong International Airport Station (浦东国际机场站) and Longyang Road Station (龙阳路站). Longyang Road Station is a major interchange for Metro Lines 2, 7, and 16, providing easy access to other parts of Shanghai.

Travel Tips

  • Ticket Purchase: Tickets can be purchased at the stations. There are single-trip and round-trip tickets, and discounts might be available if you show your flight ticket.

  • Luggage: There is ample space for luggage on the train.

  • Photography: You can take photos and videos during the ride, but be mindful of other passengers.

  • Combine with Airport Transfer: If you are flying into or out of Pudong Airport, it's a practical and exciting way to travel.

Guangfulin Relics Park

The Guangfu Lin Ruins are a Neolithic site. The cultural layers of the Guangfu Lin Ruins are divided into three layers. The upper layer is the Wu-Yue culture layer from the Spring and Autumn-Warring States period, the middle layer is the Maqiao culture layer from the Xia-Shang period, and the lower layer is the Liangzhu culture layer from the Neolithic period. The unearthed pottery shards with the characteristics of the Henan Yufang culture can be used to infer that the earliest ancestors of the people in Shanghai were from Henan. The remains of the Maqiao Culture and Songze Culture unearthed, etc., are witnesses to the life of the prehistoric people in Shanghai. The discovery of the Guangfu Lin Ruins has clarified the stratigraphic relationship between the Songze Culture, the Liangzhu Culture and the Guangfu Lin Culture, and has enriched the cultural sequence of the Neolithic period in the Taihu Lake region.
