More about the trip
Eling Park: Chongqing's Panoramic Viewpoint
Eling Park, perched atop a ridge in Yuzhong District, is one of Chongqing's oldest and most scenic parks. Originally a private garden, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city, particularly the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers. It's a tranquil oasis amidst the bustling cityscape, perfect for a leisurely stroll and enjoying the unique topography of Chongqing.
What to See and Do
Panoramic Views: The main draw of Eling Park is its stunning viewpoints. From the highest points, you can see the two major rivers (Yangtze and Jialing) converging, the sprawling urban landscape, and the bridges that connect different parts of the city. The views are particularly spectacular at sunset and night when the city lights up.
Eling Tower (Liangjiang Pavilion): Climb to the top of Eling Tower for the most expansive and unobstructed views. It provides a 360-degree perspective of Chongqing's unique mountain-city scenery.
Gardens and Pavilions: The park features beautifully landscaped gardens, traditional Chinese pavilions, and winding pathways. It's a pleasant place for a leisurely walk, enjoying the greenery and the peaceful atmosphere.
Historical Significance: The park has a rich history, having once been the private garden of a wealthy merchant. It also served as a temporary residence for Chiang Kai-shek during the Sino-Japanese War.
Testbed 2 (Eling Erchang): Just outside the park, the Testbed 2 cultural and creative park (鹅岭二厂) is a transformed old printing factory, now a trendy hub with cafes, boutiques, and art spaces. It offers a modern contrast to the historical park.
Best Time to Visit
Clear days offer the best visibility for panoramic views. Visiting during sunset allows you to experience both daytime and nighttime views of the city, which are equally stunning. Weekdays are generally less crowded than weekends.
How to Get There
Take Metro Line 1 to Eling Station (鹅岭站), Exit 1. The park entrance is a short walk from the station.
Travel Tips
Wear comfortable shoes: There are some uphill walks and stairs within the park.
Bring a camera: The views are truly spectacular and offer fantastic photo opportunities.
Combine with Testbed 2: After enjoying the tranquility and views of Eling Park, head to Testbed 2 for a more contemporary and lively experience.
